The Big Reset at 40

The Big Reset at 40

A week ago I left home without my work phone.

Surely, I have another personal phone, but it’s not connected to internet, and no calls can be received, it’s purely for audiobooks and podcasts, so I enjoyed a Noiser podcast, while having no interaction with the outside world, no notifications or whatever.

It was a nice ride, I arrive when I arrive attitude.

This inspired me to get rid of all notification apps that I deemed unnecessary and restart my focus mode again.

Removed sofascore fully, and beside focus mode, activated also bedtime mode.

But, I cheated.

I always took breaks, sometimes even turning off the whole mode, and losing myself on my phone while getting back to my 6–8 hours screen time on my work phone.

Add to that 8–9 hours that I work daily on my PC, bcs such is my work, and I should be thankful for my eyesight, my lower back, and my mental health that aren’t gone totally.

Now that I’m living in the first days of turning 40, and I’m pretty sure half of my life is already gone, I need to take precautions that these years that I have left be at least as good as they are now.

On a personal note, I finished my anti-depressant therapy a few months ago, and whoever has been through this phase knows that it’s not a walk in the park.

Not at all.

I’m not trying to talk about me, as this is a way to express myself for the people who have similarities in their life, and maybe they can find something useful to take from my plan.

Sharing is caring, and I love hearing from other people about their take on life, and one of them has been inthefllo instagram page.

Kamenica is full of beautiful nature

Also, when I put things in public, I feel more obligated to stick to those projects and duties, as somehow I’m responsible for respecting them.

First thing first — digital declutter.

At home, at work, news, reserved are some of the secondary emails I use where every mail or newsletter goes directly. I did this a couple of years ago and it’s been so neat, my friend hates it.

I want to watch news, switch to YT account about news, same goes for gaming, sports, science, etc.

Second thing — the hardest thing — Delete social media apps.

I can’t, but I must!

Once you’re on Instagram, you have to check 15 reels that 10 friends sent you amounting to a whooping 150 reels, from a few seconds to a minute, and that takes around an hour.

Then there’s tiktok with its perfect algorithm that keeps you glued for hours.

And then there are twitter and facebook with all their bots.

Lists are the best thing on twitter, and you should use only them — put the accounts you follow on lists — sportswriters, gaming, national football, wintersports, motorsports, movies, science, politics — more or less like YouTube, only here’s shorter news.

Facebook is shit, and the only reason I’m there are facebook groups that I manage with friends, and tbh made me what I am — a maniac!

The plan is to delete them all, and use them only on PC where adblock is active, facebook containers on Firefox work, and you’re sitting, not lying as comfortable as in your bed.

This will take away my phone time, and also, when on PC, there are better and more useful ways to waste my time — videogames.

The third thing — phone calls only

walks with my dog

As an introvert I hated phone calls because they take so much time — how are you, how’s everything. Man, just get to the point.

Emails and whatsapp are this now, i don’t answer to unnecessary questions, straight to the point, otherwise not answering anymore.

And what will happen will that time that I can save?

Hopefully that misophonia will stop, or whatever it’s called, and I can unrobot myself.

I always prefer hanging out with people in real life, but not in groups and in noisy areas, or too often.

I don’t have too many real friends — one died, the other is either at work or at the mountains, just like the family.

Most probably, I will work on my garden or yard, and with no audiobooks.

Watch classics and play games, all this while not being distracted by the phone.

Can I manage it?

Not a chance, but at least it’s worth a try.

And by being “virtually isolated” I will contribute even more to those who are on the internet, by writing more about movies and sports.

I will still enjoy reels and toks, and I will continue to interact with my best “reelsazis” friends, but exclusively from PC.

I even bought an alarm analog clock, so I wont need phone alarm either.

This is what midlife crisis does to you.

a pear?

Also, you spend a fortune to build the best chicken coop-house in the town, because it’s better than spending it on a bike or even worse.

I think phone is our biggest enemy when used too much.

I feel like I lost sense of being a human — I lacked social skills, but with all the technology and working with it, it got worse.

I realize that I’m not too good interacting with people in the real life, and I need to work on this.

I know I never killed my inner child and still have some childish ideas and moments, but that is something else. We all become children when doing stuff we did when we were kids.

Nothing makes me sadder than people who killed their inner child and now are grown-ass humans. Disgusting!
